 Feed my sheep… John 21:17

Jesus told Peter to feed His sheep and I’ve been meditating on this for a while.

1. What does this say to me?

2. How can I do this, more?

3. I need to listen daily to hear .

4. Where are the sheep He places in my life?

I’ll have to report later on this area of growth in my life.

It Feels Good To Be Making Progress On Something from Quilty Folk

I actually managed to get quite a bit done in spite of the fact that we had a busy, busy Easter weekend! I went ahead and added a very small coping border between the main part of A-Tisket-A-Tasket and the red hst border.

A-Tisket-A-Tasket getting a border or two
I'm pretty sure there will only be one more border, of much larger red and gold hst units. It's all cut out and ready for sewing, just need to find the time. Super happy with how it's turning out though. That lighter yellow/gold just made everything shine ...

Current projects from Northern Deb Quilts

This is my newest quilt start. It's long term ...a hand sewing ( #epp ) project. My last English paper piecing quilt top took 7 years to make and it's taking about 6 months to hand quilt then bind. This one will be faster since it wont be just worked on during car rides and doc appts. I'm doing some blocks each evening. I've hauled out my bin of 30s reproduction prints and vintage fabrics and am sorting in color order. Then I have daughter Jenn finding coordinating light/medium/dark sets for the blocks.
Also, in the ...

Baskets and Flowers from Quilty Folk

It was lovely to have company for a nice long weekend. The nieces are growing up way too fast! Can't believe one of them is already driving.*sigh We are getting too old! Most of the time when we have guests, I can get out the quilting and do a little stitching. This time I just mostly curled up in the corner of the couch and settled in for the good visiting.

A Tisket, A Tasket basket blocks are done
So yeah, in terms of quilting, there is lost time. In terms of quality of life stuff? Who cares ...

Almost March from Northern Deb Quilts

It seems like February just started and now it's almost March. Spring is on the way! Of course, here in Michigan we still have a chance of snow until May. Almost every year around Easter, we will get hit with a huge snowstorm. Hopefully not this year. With spring right around the corner I thought I would do some spring cleaning... in my sewing room.

It was a disaster before this. I'm piecing 3 or 4 quilts right now. The main two are on the floor and on the wall. I found old log cabin blocks as I ...

Another Special Vest Designed For NSQG Trip To Paducah from Quilts + Color

Many groups and guilds who attend large quilt conferences have a special piece of clothing they all wear.

I designed this vest for the Northwest Suburban Quilt Guild for their members who attended the Paducah Show years ago. It incorporates the NSQG Logo and the Dogwood that blooms in Paducah.

I have also used my vest to hold all my quilters pins.

The back of the vest also incorporates the NSQG logo and the Paducah Dogwood.

I quilted my vest by hand.

a piece of me scrappy pouch from Charm About You

A fabric zippered pouch made with patchwork fabric scraps and hand quilted with a cross hatch pattern
patchwork fabric scraps, the reverse is shown with the hand stitched seams and an open small tin of pins

Back with another make that was finished last year. I can never have enough storage, sewing or bags for sewing supplies. I made this pouch on a whim, using up pretty scraps and repurposing a little jewellery bag (the mustard yellow above), because it was so soft and it seemed wasteful to throw it away.

hand sewn fabric patchwork

I began hand piecing the scraps together, organised by size, starting with the smallest pieces. It grew until it was enough for a panel and then I repeated the process to make a back panel.

It was so fun, just stitching the fabrics together and ...

What Quilts Are Ready To Bind from Quilts + Color

This quilt is the highest priority to bind when I complete the Olympics.
It will take a lot of time as it not only will need hand finished binding but will need 4 casings for slats to make it hang properly.
I already have a special spot to display it for maximum enjoyment.

Quilterati: A New Look from Terificreations's Weblog

This morning scrolling through social media I learned of the passing away of hand quilter extraordinaire Elsie Campbell. Her accomplishments in the world of quilting include award winning hand quilter as recently as Road to California (scroll to the bottom), author, and teacher. Elsie’s latest quilt honored her fifty year marriage with her husband, Ken.… Continue reading Quilterati: A New Look

Double Digits from Quilts + Color

The hand quilting on this miniature quilt is amazing.

I drew the feather design that was hand quilted.

It also uses a variety of black fabrics to add texture and interest.

Mid December from Quilting Studio Adventures

This wall hanging is 3' x 4' and intended to be the first of a four seasons series for the dining room fireplace.  I do think this is a lovely tribute to autumn but will also admit it's odd. The hand quilting has created a wonderful texture.  But as I thought about above the fireplace, this just wouldn't work there yet.  But look how great it looks in the kitchen.  That wall has been pretty bare, so I've taped this up just to see whether it belongs here.  And I think it does!

Meanwhile during the day ...

Traveller's Blanket Update from Quilting & Learning

I've been doing a lot of slow stitching, mostly on my Traveller's Blanket and then posting on Instagram. There have been lots and lots of hours pleasantly spent stitching and now quilting it.

Quilting the Traveller's Blanket

The last update on my Traveller's Blanket was October 11, 2021. I was showing you my daily stitching on the #100dayschallenge on Instagram. At the time I was up to day 37/100. On Day 39, I started quilting the background of the right top corner of the piece. This picture was taken about a week ago.

Slowly quilting ...

It's Always Better To Have the Prep Work Behind You from Quilty Folk

I've been busy, busy. Trying to get lots of applique prep done over the last weekend while my daughter was away on vacation. It was waaay past time to pull out Coronacrazy and just get moving on it. While the centerpiece has been done since January, the only thing accomplished since that particular push was the foundation work for this applique border. Letting it sit around and gather dust was only making me feel guilty and even more apprehensive about how it was going to turn out.

Will have to stitch down the corners later
The thing is, the ...

Dressing Up - a modern tile qal from Sew Sunshine

"Dressing Up"

Modern Tile Pattern by Mell Meyer

27"x 27"

made from upcycled textiles

hand appliqued shapes on all the blocks

hand quilted with big stitch in med gray

I used all black or black gray textiles. I have always wanted to do dark on dark and thought by making this pattern smaller I could accomplish it and keep my sanity. Sewing with dark thread on blacks requires lots of natural light for me.

As you can imagine with the different textiles - denim, shirting, slippery shirting, skirt weight and stretch denim it was a challenge. Some areas have really ...

A Little Bit of Applique and A Brand New Completion! from Quilty Folk

First things first, right? This past week has been for working on the Crazy Daisy blocks. Finally got the petals totally sewn down.*Whew! Thought that might never happen! Then it was time to cut out the flower centers. The bright citrussy greens just hit all the right notes so here they are, sewn onto the flowers by machine. No reason not to sew them raw edge style as the darker brown arches will be hand sewn down directly over the tops.

Crazy Daisy Blocks almost finished up!

Those arches are already cut out and ready to go. Gotta get ...

With a detailed list of supplies needed and step-by-step photos of the entire process, you will be an expert in practically no time.  Her technique makes it easy, even curves, like the ones in the heart shape pictured.  If you are an appliqué fan, you know that curves can be tough.

Ballet with Kaffe = Fireworks from Wendy's Quilts and More

Everyone loves a good fireworks display, so I've decided to call my Ballet with Kaffe quilt, "Fireworks".

Fireworks by Wendy Welsh

I'm so pleased that this quilt is finished.  I love it, but it did take me a few years from start to finish. There were times when I thought I might never finish it. In the end I drew a line on my pattern and decided to stop piecing at that line.

I started this quilt in June 2017, and I finished it in February 2021.  That's almost four years!!!

The Cotton + Steel floral fabric on ...
